I saw a great movie about the life of gay rights activist Harvey Milk last night. It was a sold out show at the Castro Theater. There is something really special about seeing a film about events that happened right in the very neighborhood 30 years ago.
I was very moved by the film, though it's not the typical kind of movie I usually like (light comedies). Even though the film was about the tragic death of a mayor and supervisor, it was not a depressing movie. On the contrary, some times so called "defeats" can touch people in positive ways. Perhaps this is what is going on with the passage of Prop 8 tody: people are fired up and uniting to fight for equal rights. Just like in the movie in the fight against the Briggs Initiative.
